Before I ventured into the product side of media, I was a news reporter. My time in the newsroom not only deepened my commitment to the importance of information sharing, but also laid the groundwork for my transition into product development, where I create meaningful, user-centered experiences.
My work is still heavily informed by my time covering one of the largest sexual abuse cases in sports history. While at my university's student newspaper, I led coverage of former gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar's sexual abuse of hundreds of women, many of whom he abused while working at Michigan State University. I interviewed abuse survivors, filed stories from the courtroom, shed light on the community response and led a desk of reporters to cover the crisis. It taught me the importance of empathy and accountability, and it showed me the immense value of journalism.
I held various reporting positions and internships at The Indianapolis Star (2020), the Naples Daily News (2019), the Lansing State Journal (2018), MLive.com/The Grand Rapids Press (2018), and The State News (2016-2020).
